Justifying an intervention by chaining multiple plausible mechanisms while ignoring or under-weighting the (often weaker) human outcome data. “PGC-1α activates → mitochondrial biogenesis → therefore Y.” The mechanism is the story, the outcome is the evidence; conflating them is the failure mode.
